Just left York lakeside lodges this morning after a really good week, stayed in Maple lodge found it to be comfortable and well organised, this lodge benefits from a Sauna and jacuzzi bath, exceptional beautiful lake views from the lodge and really good fishing, caught upper and lower twenties plus several upper doubles whilst I was there.I know there have been some negative reviews from others that stayed here but we did not have any issues at all and will certainly book again as it’s the best lodge break you could have in my opinion. Many thanks to Neil and his family.
The entire place is just so, so dated and tired. Really not what you'd expect these days when renting a cottage/lodge. Visit England's rating system must be particularly generous to give 4 and 5 star ratings here. We stayed in one of the cottages as you drive in. It needs completely refitting, the decor is dated and starting to show it's age. Right from the flooring and kitchen, to the beds, linens, fixtures and fittings and even the welcome brochure. There's simply zero effort to keep the place close to being up to date. This is indicative of the whole site, with everything looking like it's not been touched for decades. The kids playground was appalling and some of the lakeside areas I'd call plain unsafe - rotten jetty boards with big gaps in between etc. No warning signs or anything. Reception was ramshackle. It's a massive shame as the location is amazing so close the amenities and the 10 minute park and ride to York. There seems to be the desire to not spend money by the owners. The site itself could also be spectacular which is such a shame when it's been neglected. And yes, it's right next to the mainline trains. They do get bothersome and I expect in summer temperatures where windows need to be open it might ruin some visits.
A tranquil retreat near York ,only a short walk from the regular park and ride bus into the centre of York.If you are a carp angler it's double bonus as you get to fish a popular syndicate water holding some impressive specimens
Great place for a relaxing holiday. Fishing is for the big fish angler, well stocked. Wild life full of interest I saw my first black squirrel and was introduced to a day old clutch of sygnets, what great parents SWANSEA are.
My husband booked a stay here for us as a getaway for my birthday. After reading the reviews I have to admit I was a bit nervous, however I didn't need to be. We have just spent an amazing 2 weeks here. We stayed in lodge 4, it had a gorgeous view of the lake, was clean & very well equipped including an ironing board, iron & clothes maiden. I agree that some elements of the lodge were a bit \"tired\" but as I had my 2 dogs with me I was glad it wasn't all brand new, I'd have been on pins. The owner met us at reception on our arrival & was polite & smiley with us. We encountered him on a couple of occasions & he was always polite & helpful. He saw us out of the lodge on the last day & asked about our trip & our stay. We were offered clean towels & bed linen after our first week by a lovely lady. We had a great time & the setting is absolutely beautiful, peaceful & tranquil. We heard no traffic noise as some people have said & the trains were few & far between so we didn't really notice them. My husband & son had a great time fishing & my son caught a rather large like! The only negative for us was the dog situation, you are unable to leave dogs in the lodges alone, which is understandable & they have to be kept on a lead on the park which again is understandable, therefore I thought the kennels would have been better. We adore our dogs & they are part of our family so when I saw the kennels I just knew they weren't for us, they are very basic, dark & cold & being the softey I am I just couldn't have left them there while I went off to have fun. As the kennels are free perhaps I shouldn't complain, however I would happily pay for day Kenneling if the doggy accommodation was better. Other than that criticism, we had no complaints & can't wait to go back!
